Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community  
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills  
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members  
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
Economic initiatives Aroland First Nation is involved with include: 
  • Advisory capacity for local area businesses such as the Gas Bar, Convenience Store, Tourist Outfitters and Taxi Company 
  • Creation of Aroland Industrial LP, an industry which pursues forestry and mining contracts in the area 
  • Harvesting blueberries and selling to markets in Thunder Bay, Hearst, Kapuskasing and other southern communities 
  • Established community garden with the possibility of exporting produce to northern communities 
  • Signatory with other Matawa First Nations and Province of Ontario to a regional framework agreement (signed Mar 26/14) outlining how they will benefit from development of the proposed Ring of Fire, ensuring that both parties will work together in the areas of regional long-term environmental monitoring and enhanced participation in environmental assessment processes, resource revenue sharing, economic supports, regional and community infrastructure 
  • Nedaakiimenaan Inc, a newly formed partnership consisting of Aroland, Constance Lake, Ginoogaming and Long Lake #58 First Nations with a goal of building capacity in the Forest Management of the Kenogami Forest
