If an individual has been found ineligible for services or services have been cancelled or suspended they:
  • have a right to request a review of the decision and
  • must submit a letter to the local office outlining the reasons why an individual feels the decision made by the local office is incorrect
Note: Community Legal Clinics can also assist with reviews and the review process
Description (Service) Provides financial assistance for basic needs (food, shelter, clothing)

Participants can access a variety of programs and support services including but not limited to:
  • Additional help for hearing aids and mobility devices
  • Assistive technology
  • Coverage for up-front child care costs
  • Dental coverage
  • Employment and Training Start Up Benefit
  • Employment transition benefit
  • Extended Health Benefit
  • Guide dog benefit
  • Help to pay for necessary home repairs
  • Medical supplies
  • Medical transportation
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Special Diet Nutritional Allowance
  • Transitional health benefit
  • Vision care
  • Work-related benefit

Eligibility Ages: 65 year(s) and under 
Individuals must: 
  • be a resident of Ontario 
  • be able to work in Canada 
  • meet both the financial and disability criteria 
Various financial criteria must be met; individuals will have to provide information on the following: 
  • household composition (who is part of the family, spouse or adult dependents)
  • how many children, how old they are and whether they are in school  
  • place of residence and cost to live there (rent) 
  • household income (for all members) 
  • assets, such as any savings in the bank and any property owned
Disability criteria is based on the Ontario Disability Support Program Act and must meet the definition of a "person with a disability" as defined under the Act. Under the act this individual is someone who has a substantial mental or physical disability that: 
  • is continuous or recurrent 
  • expected to last for a year or more 
  • significantly limits their ability to work, look after themselves, or get out in the community, and 
  • has been verified by an approved health professional (Medical Review)
  • Individuals who require financial assistance right away should apply for assistance through Ontario Works as applications can take anywhere from a week to a few months to be processed 
  • Individuals can apply online 
    or by contacting the office
The following documentation is required to complete application: 
  • Copy of Canada Child Benefit statement (for children under 18 years of age)  
  • Copy of mortgage or rental agreement  
  • Health card 
  • Information about assets owned, such as a Registered Retirement Savings Plan  
  • Information about other income and money, such as a pension 
  • Proof of identity, such as birth certificate  
  • Proof of immigration status, if required 
  • Proof of Social Insurance Number 
  • Recent bank statement for all bank accounts  
  • Record of Employment and/or most recent pay stubs
