Public Comments It is recommended that when an individual turns 65 they tell their doctor/nurse practitioner and pharmacist that their coverage is about to begin. This will ensure that an individual is prescribed medication that is covered under the program.
Description (Service) Covers most of the cost of prescription drug products listed in the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) Formulary 
  • The benefit year for all ODB recipients is Aug 1 - Jul 31 of the following year
Note: Does not cover syringes and other diabetic supplies such as lancets and glucometers, eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids or compression stockings
Hours Mon-Fri 8:30 am-5 pm
Areas Served Algoma District ; Cochrane District ; Kenora District ; Manitoulin District ; Nipissing District ; Rainy River District ; Sudbury District ; Thunder Bay District ; Timiskaming District
  • Must live in Ontario 
  • Must have a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card 
  • Prescriptions must be filled in an Ontario pharmacy
The following are eligible for benefits: 
  • Individuals 65 years of age and older or 
  • Individuals 24 years of age or younger and not covered by a private insurance plan or 
  • Residents of long-term care homes or 
  • Residents of Homes for Special Care or 
  • Residents of a Community Home for Opportunity 
  • Individuals receiving professional home and community care services or 
  • Individuals on Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or Ontario Works (OW) or 
  • Trillium Drug Program registrants
  • Seniors will be sent a letter from the Ministry three months before they turn 65 to inform them that their coverage is about to begin 
  • Application forms can be obtained online or by calling 1-888-405-0405
