Public Comments Healing Lodge is governed by Board of Directors from 9 Mushkegowuk Communities; 7 members represent 7 First Nation communities, 1 member represents the Local Services Board of Moose Factory and 1 member represents the municipality of Moosonee
Description (Agency) Offers a 12-bed, residential treatment facility that offers a variety of programs and services
Description (Service)
  • Functions as an alcohol and drug addictions treatment centre 
  • Offers a 12-bed residential treatment facility 
  • Provides a 3-week family healing program 4 times a year, and a 6-week individual treatment program 4 times a year 
  • Addresses the needs of an individual's spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being 
  • Assists individual to gain an understanding of how abuse, relationship dynamics, addictions, self-destructive behavior and family violence affects their life 
  • Supports individual to create healthy boundaries, address grief and losses, resentments, recognize denial, and change defensive behavior by identifying defence mechanisms
Provides the following services and programs; 
  • Assessment and Treatment Planning 
  • Individual and Group Counselling 
  • Nutrition Program 
  • Recreation Program 
  • Health Services 
  • Community Education and Resources 
  • Aftercare Planning and Follow-up
Hours Office Oct-May: Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12 noon,1 pm-5 pm 
Jun-Sep Mon-Fri 12:30 pm-4:30 pm 
Residential Program Mon-Sun 24 hours

Eligibility Ages: 18 year(s) and up 
Must be a registered First Nations or Inuit Person with a Registry and/or Band number
First Nations individuals challenged with drug and/or alcohol addictions and meet some of the following criteria: 
  • Must have been abstinent for 72 hours 
  • Is a former graduate of a drug/alcohol centre 
  • Has a desire to stop drinking and/or to overcome addictive behavior 
  • Has a desire to commit to healing and recovery 
  • May or may not have relapsed or is at risk of relapse and wants to return to a life of recovery and healing
Family Program 
  • Families which includes all members from infant and up 
  • Parents, children and youth reside as a family unit in the residential part of the facility
  • Referrals accepted by self-referral, community counselors/agencies, detox/halfway house, health and paraprofessionals, women's shelters/Children's Aid Society 
  • Referral agency required to be in contact with Sagashtawao Lodge and client to make informed referral 
  • Referral and medical forms available on website
Upon client acceptance he/she must: 
  • Submit completed referral and medical forms at least 2 weeks prior to admission 
  • Bring personal belongings as outlined on website  
  • Be responsible for own travel arrangements 
  • Make arrangements to cancel all appointments during 6-week treatment period 
  • Bring all own physician-prescribed medications ie tylenol 
  • Abstain from all mood altering substances ie Prozac, tranquilizers 
  • Bring own spending money 
  • Abide by no contact rule for first 2 weeks (except emergencies) 
  • Submit mandatory TB test results
