Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community 
  • Works to generate and maintain permanent employment for individuals through the creation and support of self-employment initiatives and economic-based community projects 
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business  
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members 
  • Assists with bringing Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal business communities together to form partnerships and encourage economic self sufficiency  
  • Researches economic opportunities, proposal writing and reviews funding criteria as related to community needs and training
Economic initiatives Michipicoten is involved with include: 
  • Working relationship with Augustine Ventures Inc, a junior gold exploration company 
  • Completion and implementation of the MFN Comprehensive Community Plan 
  • Agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources for the Magpie Forest Management Plan initiative 
  • Agreement with Magino Mine Project to conduct a Traditional Knowledge Study, a federally-funded independent Environmental Study and researching the impacts and benefits of the mining activity within Michipicoten territory
