Description (Agency) Promotes local environmental sustainability through a variety of activities
Description (Service) Promotes local environmental sustainability through a variety of activities including the following:  
  • Collects and recycles Christmas trees for the city of Sault Ste Marie and produces wood mulch  
  • Operates workplace compost waste demonstrations 
  • Offers finished compost for use in community gardens 
  • Collects tree seeds 
  • Grows tree seedlings which are made available for use by community members at cost 
  • Organizes tree planting projects 
  • Organizes community litter cleanups 
  • Assembles and distributes rain barrels, worm composting kits, bat houses and coir blocks 
  • Organizes Earth Day presentation and events 
  • Answers questions from the public related to local waste management and recycling initiatives 
  • Offers workplace seminars and school presentations  
  • Provides office space, a reference library and internet access
