Description & Services
Description (Service) Operates as a division of Health Canada's First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) to provide nursing leadership, support and consultation to nursing services such as health centres and nursing stations on First Nation reserves 
  • Focuses on improving the health of First Nation members 
  • Ensures service, support and management such as providing orientation for newly recruited nurses 
  • Develops standards, policies, guidelines and leads national initiatives related to nursing care in First Nation communities 
  • Strives to provide nursing care that is both culturally respectful and meets community needs
Provides the following services: 
  • Addresses nursing shortages in First Nation and Inuit regions and communities 
  • Supports nursing recruitment and retention by providing training and development initiatives, nursing programs and professional opportunities 
  • Supports quality nursing services delivery models 
  • Partners with other groups to establish and sustain nursing practise standards 
  • Addresses the monitoring and reporting of nursing services provided
