Description (Service)
  • Works as a voluntary program to promote student/staff learning within an Anishinabek environment and worldview 
  • Provides Anishinaabe Odziiwin (AO) distinction and recognition at end of each year and upon graduation
Program consists of the following: 
  • KTEI provides many opportunities throughout the year for learning in language, traditions, and culture which participant can choose to attend based on own interests 
  • Cultural activities/opportunities attended outside KTEI also count towards hours 
  • Enrollment in program provides participant with an Anishinaabe Odziiwin (AO) Passport 
  • Activity hours are recorded in the AO Passport and handed in at end of each school program/year  
Examples of activities can include: 
  • Fall harvests and feasts 
  • Full moon ceremonies 
  • Ojibwe language classes/courses/camps 
  • Special teachings/sessions relating to Anishinaabe culture 
  • Sunrise ceremonies 
  • Sweat Lodges

  • All staff and any students (Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal) enrolled in programs with the Kenjgewin Educational Institute 
  • Full-time staff and students must record a minimum of 24 hours in one year; part-time staff and students must record a minimum of 12 hours in one year
  • Contact Program Leader or Instructor to make arrangements 
  • Initial step is to complete a short interview called "Kantaa-Anishinaabemiā€¯ KTEI Anishinaabemowin Assessment Tool to determine knowledge of the Ojibwe language
