Description (Service)
  • Provides educational services and supports to nursery, elementary, secondary and post-secondary school students of Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve 
  • Prepares education budgets and develops education policies to meet the needs of the community 
  • Provides bus transportation for community students 
  • Hosts an annual career fair for all students 
  • Supports community students competing in science competitions in southern Ontario  
  • Provides information on community involvement hours to students about groups looking for volunteer assistance 
  • Partners with McMaster University in the Come Explore Medicine program 
  • Receives and resolves complaints and disputes related to any education matters
Administers the following: 
  • Hub Centre Day Care and Nursery School 
  • Junior School (JK-Grade 4) 
  • Pontiac School (Grade 5-8) 
  • Wikwemikong High School (Grade 9-12)
Oversees the following departments: 
  • Adult Education Program 
  • Anishinabe Curriculum Department 
  • First Nation Student Success Program
Post Secondary Counselling Unit (PSCU)  
  • Provides counselling and guidance in choosing post-secondary field of studies  
  • Provides forms and assistance for applying/filling out application forms for colleges and universities  
  • Provides financial sponsorship support to post secondary students
Special Education 
  • Provides special education assistance for students with learning difficulties in all 3 community schools 
  • Offers services through two Special Education Resource Teachers (SERT), one for Grades K-6 and one for Grades 7-12  
  • Develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student with annual reviews  
  • Strives for maximum amount of integration with regular programs

Post Secondary Counselling Unit
  • All registered Band members of Wikwemikong are eligible to apply for assistance if attending a post-secondary institution
  • Applications will be considered based on eligibility and availability of funds
  • The program of study must be recognized as a post-secondary program by accredited academic institution recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development
Special Education
Any child with special needs and/or learning difficulties
Application Registration required at all schools; details listed individually for each school
Post Secondary Counselling Unit
  • Educational assistance package available at PSCU Office and on website
  • Continuing students must reapply for funding each year
  • Deadline to apply for all academic studies: Jun 1st or Fri prior if Jun 1st is on weekend
For financial assistance applicant required to provide:
  • Photocopy of recent status card
  • Completed post-secondary application package issued by Wikwemikong Board of Education
  • Letter of acceptance from post-secondary institution
  • Tuition fee statements/invoices
  • Course registration/class schedule
  • Transcripts from high school and any previous academic institutions
  • Detailed letter of intent with program information
  • Bank information for direct deposit only
  • Signed student contract
