Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community  
  • Promotes economic self-determination and has developed into a progressive community with a strong culture of tribal economic and cultural entrepreneurship  
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills  
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website  
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business  
  • Maintains local business directory  
  • Facilitates economic development strategic planning sessions
Economic initiatives Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation is involved with include: 
  • Support of a small business centre, opened in 2010, which also houses the Seven Generations Education Institute Wabigoon campus 
  • Establishment (1988) and successful operation of the only wild rice harvesting plant in Canada 
  • A local "stump to dump" logging enterprise, Noopimiing Anokeewin Inc, that does everything from building own logging roads to delivering wood to local mills  
  • Advisory capacity for Wabigoon Lake Community Store located on the Trans Canada Hwy 
  • Business advisory for a locally owned and operated restaurant called Girlys Grill, specializing in local meals such as bannock burgers and Indian tacos 
  • WLON Distribution, a locally-owned business which distributes environmentally safe cleaning products 
  • Waabigon Saagai'gan Gitigan, a community-owned and operated tree nursery established in 2000 which grows over 6 million seedlings under contract with mainstream forestry companies 
  • On-going negotiations for the Two Feather Forest Products Business Development initiative, a laminated post and beam business
