  • Reserve is independent but is part of Albany Reserve #67 which it shares with Fort Albany First Nation located 12 km away on Sinclair Island 
  • Community only accessible by air through Fort Albany Airport year-round (serviced by Air Creebec, Wasaya Airways and Keeshig Airlines), by water via James Bay or Fort Albany River during warmer months or ice road during winter months 
  • Kashchewan is a dry community and ALL arriving passengers at airport and via winter road undergo a luggage check for alcohol and/or illegal substances 
  • Nearest large urban centre is Timmins, 460 km S of Kashechewan

Description (Service) Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the First Nation 
  • Responsible for passing own community by-laws and local regulations 
  • Provides a Canada Post postal station at the Northern Store  
  • Operates local radio station 
  • Provides all homes with television cable services and many homes with satellite cable 
  • Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and drug and alcohol abuse awareness
