Community Employment Counsellor is Wendy Coaster
Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community 
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills 
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members 
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business 
  • Maintains local business directory
Employment Counselling 
Provides support, advocacy and direction for Band members who are seeking employment and includes following services: 
  • Assistance with resume and cover letter writing  
  • Guidance in filling out job applications  
  • Tips for job searches and preparing for interviews  
  • On-going counselling with any challenges in workplace
Local economic initiatives include: 
  • Advisory for local businesses including Bigfoot Variety, the grocery store and a fuel supply business 
  • Assisting in the study of connecting the community by road (new winter road) to the permanent highway system 
  • Developing a comprehensive community profile to determine community assets, labour force inventory and land inventory for new business development as these all relate to opportunities from the Ring of Fire mining venture 
  • Current Environmental Assessment (EA) to determine best route for an all-season access road beginning N of Nakina to Marten Falls FN; EA scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2020
