Description (Agency) Functions as a community garden for community members to plant, tend, and harvest together
Description (Service)
  • Provides a garden that community members plant, tend and harvest together for a fresh food supply 
  • Growing season runs from May to September; dependent upon weather 
  • All gardens coordinated through volunteer efforts and always looking for available volunteers 
  • Accept donations of cash and gardening items including seeds, bulbs, perennials, fertilizers, mulching materials, equipment and supplies such as hand tools, garden hoses, wheel barrows, watering cans, flower pots, gloves and kneeling pads 
  • Donates any surplus produce to local food programs
Dryden Community Garden

  • Operates as individual raised plots (42) available for rent ($15 per plot) 
  • Provides access to garden tools and equipment stored on site 
  • Provides existing gardeners first chance to renew 
  • Sends monthly newsletter to garden users during growing season 
  • Offers large roofed training shelter (20x30) for public events and meetings free of charge
Ear Falls Community Garden

Ignace Community Garden

  • Operates as individual raised plots (14) and one large ground plot available free of charge 
  • Offers 2 plots for seniors and 2 plots for children 
  • Provides access to garden tools and equipment stored on site; key provided to plot users
Kenora Community Garden

Red Lake Community Garden

  • Operates as individual plots (10) available free of charge on a first come first served basis 
  • Offers a communal plot area for potatoes and strawberries that can be picked by gardeners 
  • Provides no equipment storage on site
Sioux Lookout Community Garden 
Second Ave N (Up the street from Sioux Lookout High School)

  • Coordinated by the Municipal Environment Committee 
  • Operates as individual plots (16) available free of charge 
  • Construction of storage shed and outdoor classroom area begins in fall 2011
Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls Seniors Sunrise Garden 
Site 5655 Hwy 71 (1 mile south of Sioux Narrows Bridge; behind Joe Douglas Senior's Centre)

  • Operates as individual raised plots (23) available to paid members of the Senior Centre 
  • Garden beds are raised about 2 ft to allow gardening from a chair and can be reached from all sides 
  • Area is fenced in but not locked; most garden tools and equipment are available for use on site
Vermilion Bay Community Gardens 
Three locations: First United Church Garden is located behind the church at 4918 – 52 Ave; Brennan Garden is located on the far NW end of 53rd Ave in the Brennan subdivision; Recycle Center Garden is in the Recycle Center yard located at 4018-52 Ave (E of the Airport Terminal Building)

  • Offers communal plots in three different locations for gardeners to choose from 
  • Requests a nominal membership fee to help cover the cost of maintenance 
  • Works in partnership with the United Church and Town of Vermilion Environment Committee

  • Child plots for children aged 16 years and under 
  • Senior plots for individuals 60 years of age and over
Red Lake Community Garden 
  • Requires initial intake process to receive access to plot
Sioux Lookout Community Garden 
  • Must sign a gardening contract 
  • Requires a $10 key deposit ($5 refundable)
Sioux Narrows 
  • Requires plot users to have a membership in the Sunrise Echoes Senior Centre 
  • Individuals 50 years of age and older
Application Call each community contact to reserve plot; rented or allotted on first come basis
