Description (Agency) Friendship Centres are not-for-profit corporations which are mandated to serve the needs of all Aboriginal people regardless of legal definition. This necessitates responding to thousands of Aboriginal people requiring culturally-sensitive and culturally-appropriate services in urban communities

Description (Service)
  • Provides a wide range of community-based and culturally appropriate programs and services to urban Aboriginal people 
  • Provides a meeting place for urban Aboriginal people and community members regardless of nationality 
  • Addresses the distinct needs of Aboriginal people in the areas of justice, health, education, employment and training and relief of poverty 
  • Participates in community development activities that promote cultural diversity and partnership development with other Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal agencies
