Description (Service) Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community 
  • Provides services through the guidance and partnership with Waubetek Business Development Corporation 
  • Works to generate and maintain permanent employment for individuals through the creation and support of self-employment initiatives and economic-based community projects 
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures  
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business 
  • Maintains local business directory 
  • Hosts annual Serpent River First Nation Trade Show  
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members

Current economic development initiatives in various stages include: 
  • Rail line between Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie 
  • Completed construction of a rail siding into a Serpent River quarry to supply rock to Huron Central Railway for reconstructive railway work  
  • Partnership with Glo North Energy Solutions to produce LED light bulbs 
  • Feasibility of a trout rearing operation in the community 
  • Establishment of an Internet web store for the Trading Post 
  • Advisory for local businesses including the Gas Bar and Trading Post 
  • Coordination of the Wind Energy Project
